Grab Taxi Grab Taxi allows you to book the island's taxi drivers using the Grab mobile app. Payment is by cash to the driver or via credit card through their app. The best part? No haggling necessary. Especially since taxi drivers in Samui are infamous for not using their meters despite it being the law. The app quotes you the price when you book. Available on both Google Play and Apple App Store. Car rental There are car rental counters (Hertz, Sixt, Budget, Avis) located in the arrivals area of the Samui Airport. To ensure availability of cars, consider booking in advance of your trip. Samui Airport Taxi Samui Airport Taxi provides private and shared airport transfers as well as Island tours. Their counter is located in the arrivals hall of the Samui Airport. Taxi services The cheapest method of getting around Koh Samui is on a songthaew. Prices range as little as 20 baht per person to generally no more than 60 baht. You can just jump aboard and pay 20 baht per person when you jump off – no discussion or haggling. In the evenings, some will operate as private taxis, meaning they will take you directly to your destination. But they will also charge you considerably more for doing so. You will need to negotiate with the driver before setting off. The taxis of Koh Samui are yellow and maroon. While most have a meter, very few ever use it. Instead, drivers will negotiate a fixed price with you which is often quite high relative to the distance. Considerably cheaper, motorbike taxis in Koh Samui can be found by looking for the riders in brightly-coloured vests. As with other forms of taxi, you will need to negotiate a price in advance.
